Research towards a designed, autonomous protein motor built from non-motor parts

We are an interdisciplinary team of protein scientists, biophysicists and physicists

A variety of molecular motors that can propel using chemical energy exist in living organisms, but is it possible to make an even better motor in a test tube? The synergies of our different expert areas are important to tackle the research challenge of synthesizing different motor types and demonstrating motion. The three involved research groups are led by Heiner Linke (Lund University), Birte Höcker (University of Bayreuth), and Paul Curmi (University of New South Wales, Sydney). Also, we are closely collaborating with several other researchers.
